Will You Choose the Red Pill or the Blue Pill?
What are you afraid of?
I’ll never forget when I was 8 years old…
My parents had just moved our family to northern Virginia from outside Chicago.
Standing in the hallway outside of my soon-to-be third-grade classroom, I was anxious. The building seemed big and scary, the new teacher unfamiliar.
I could hear the voices and laughter of the kids inside the classroom.
My new teacher invited me to introduce myself to the class… and I panicked.
I couldn’t do it. I stayed in the hallway, afraid to stand in front of the 20 kids who would become my classmates the very next day.
For many reasons, this is a moment that marked me…
I was uncomfortable. Scared.
I look back on that day and wish I’d had the courage to walk into that classroom.
If you’ve watched the movie The Matrix, it was a proverbial red or blue pill situation.
One path… take a chance and open myself to something.
The other… turn and run, scared of what lay ahead.
Fast-forward years later when I was taking several summer classes as I worked to graduate from college early.
I made myself take a public speaking course.
There I was, another hot mess. Butterflies in my stomach, swaying while I spoke…
But I got through the fear… and ultimately over it.
Life has a funny way of coming full circle.
There I was just last month speaking to, teaching and training a room full of 50 people.
We all have these stories. Most of them live in the personal development space.
Growth comes from getting out from under your fears.
Are you afraid of heights… flying… being photographed?
Just two weeks ago I was in New York City doing a photoshoot with Carl.
We’re gearing up for the rebrand of Ninja Acquisitions to Dealmaker Wealth Society… one that reflects its true purpose and that will open up tremendous opportunities for you.
I’m not particularly fond of being photographed…
But here we are… in an incredible high-rise penthouse in Manhattan, on the Upper East Side.
Seven of us in total, only Carl and I in front of the camera.
The others watching… judging… examining.
But the lesson comes from getting through it…
Just doing it.
Listen, I know it isn’t easy…
You’re on the hunt. Trying to find the deal that will change your life.
All of it is going to put you through the wringer when it comes to your comfort zone.
But fear is only going to get in between where you are and where you want to go.
We’ve all heard the saying “Fake it till you make it.”
It’s so true.
Confidence will take you further than you’ve ever wanted to go.
I was talking with a member in London who was afraid his age would be a limiting factor when it came to doing a deal.
I’ll tell you the same thing I told him…
It won’t matter.
There are literally millions of deals out there to be had. Millions.
Push through the fear, the discomfort… and the idea of failure.
If you don’t, you’re forfeiting your own future.
I know to put yourself out there to brokers, sellers, the long list of advisers and fellow members – none of it is easy.
I’ve been there.
But it’s worth it to take the chance. Make the leap…
Own your journey.
